Douce France, pays de mon enfance . . .
Friday night (nov 4th) among other tragedies more then 900 cars (the number
is now -Nov 7th- approaching 1500) where set blazing in places all around France -
a.o. Lille, Avignon , Cannes, Nice , Rouen , Bordeaux , Nantes , Saint-Dizier (Ardennes) ,
Strasbourg - with Saturday-night the problems reaching outer Paris -some 30 cars on fire-
(Northeast : Seine-Saint Denis . . . ) with well over 2000 police pouring
in for protection. Churches where set blazing . . . -a.o. in idyllic beach
resort Seth on the Mediterranean between Marseille and Spain . . . .
In France I only had beautiful times . Since I was
fourteen I stayed in France on an almost yearly basis . A disgustingly
privileged youngster (which I did not realize. . . I was always treated kindly . . . or
even with respect . . . ! ) hitchhiking , alone or with a friend , from North to South
, East to West, learning to fly aeroplanes , jump out of them , diving "in the
blue" (to 150+ ft . . . ), learning to ski , mountain climb, you name it . . . .
And now this . How well can I understand the Politicians (who’s company I
shared for many years) . . . the "1000 stable citizens march" ( No to
violence. . . ) . But also the young Muslims whom I lived with during my
African adventures . . . . Conflicting loyalties ? Perhaps one problem for many
humans is . . . they do not understand . . . can not understand . . .
they do not understand each other . . . . When you have the privilege of a lasting stable state . . .
it’s all you need . . . why should you . . . need violence . . . . But
when you don’t have it . . . or when it’s threatened . . . well . . .
that is a different matter . . .
For the moment our conclusion must be that in France , like in many other countries (including North America ... ) an increasing number of citizens live under minimal conditions for live . The idea that their Shepherds (in Europe) are seriously considering to import an ever increasing number of foreign workers under a new constitution, to share the few benefits they have left in the country where they grew up and have their roots may not always be easy to understand for everyone .
