Heidrun reflected on Ralph“s letter which had mysteriously arrived from England earlier that week .Six months she had now lived in the valley .
After her mother and kid-brother , Uwe, where killed in one of the raids on Munich , she had been sent to Waldheim by the orphan registration board .
She had thought of being a nun, like her aunt Hilde , after the school“s routine medical examination .
When her mother and brother died her mind was set .
She had told the board she would take the vows and they had sent her to the convent where her aunt was a nun .
The beautiful girl did not enter unnoticed . She shuddered whenever she thought back about that frightful experience . That weird inspection ritual . . .
Of course this was only the dream . The ever recurrent dream . . .
The young girls at the orphanage had talked about the inspection ritual every night . In the dormitory .
It had become an obsession .
Then the dreams had come . . . And they had never left her . . .
The obsession had stopped her at the convent`s door .
Frantically she had run back to the village .
She was then allowed to stay in Waldheim with the Doctor and his wife.
To help them with the patients .
