Summary
We will take the position that religion can be regarded as perhaps the oldest evolutionary mechanism ultimately giving human organisms peace of mind (e.g. thus reducing ~accumulation of~ stressors and its consequences often shortening life span ~Seleye~ ) .
This also means : it allows humans to adapt their (individual) homeostatic impulses (our human drives) to each other (group homeostasis) and to accept the moment when (physical) homeostasis can no longer be maintained .
As homosapiens emerged on different locations or spread across our planet it was confronted with different environmental variables requiring a variety of coping behavior patterns (e.g.emancipation) represented by religion e.g. with rules ultimately resulting in peace of mind and also by "Politics" both with related group shepherds .
Environmental variables also change through (dynamic) interaction of live organisms of which homosapiens is only one .
Religion incorporated the relevant changes which throughout the Aeons resulted in differentiation e.g. about the ( different ) ways in which human organisms should interact .
For stability these "ways" (or rules) where anchored in the mind (e.g. in human conscience) which provides humans the final impulse to activate ( or not activate) their muscles .
The speed of globalization has "recently" resulted in exposing human conscience to potentially chaotic states which Religion is now struggling to prevent with a compatible speed .
